I believe that deep within every human being is an essence of pure, perfect, love. We have many names for this: Soul, Holy Spirit, Source Energy, God, Inner Guide. Whatever you want to call it, this ball of radiant love is within us at all times, even in our lowest moments, in our most desperate moments, in our darkest hours. There is love present and available at all times. Take a moment to really let that sink in. You have all of the love that you could ever need and want nestled within your heart at this very moment. This is a life changing realization my loves.
When I began my journey to reconnect with the love within, I struggled. I had a hard time believing that the little light of mine was even still lit. I was so disconnected that I saw myself as empty inside, extinguished. My spiritual support team of friends, mentors, family, and an amazing cognitive-behavioral therapist would all tell me that I “had it”. And I couldn’t see it, I couldn’t feel it. I didn’t believe them and there were many times when I called them on their bull-shit.
But then, a shift began to happen. My point of attraction pivoted and love started to manifest itself in some incredible ways. . You see, I was so focused on seeking love within myself and so focused on seeing the good in my own heart that, overtime, love and goodness just sort of happened. I got the apartment I so desperately wanted, I found ways to connect with my family which opened me to compassion, I started to ask the toxic people in my life to kindly exit. It was like moving into a backbend. My heart opened and love poured in and even out. My aha moment came when I was chatting with a stranger on the subway and she told me that I was a beautiful girl, inside and out. Hold the phone! Here was a person who I made a genuine connection with, I was vulnerable and I dared greatly and she saw the light within. And in that instant I felt pretty alive and lit up on the inside. My soul had reawakened.
Since I reignited the flame within myself I’ve found it very easy to fall in love with people. I fell in love with the little girl who, to spite her mother, licked her hands after touching a pole on the subway. I fell in love with the homeless man who just wanted a Big Mac, I fell in love with the man playing piano in Grand Central. I could go on and on. Everyday I seek out and find more people to love.
My point is this: If you want to see life and people through the eyes of God, see yourself that way first. Everything is nurtured and can grow with love. You can change your life, you can ignite change in others, you can even help someone to recognize their light and inspire them to serve others. Love can put into motion a string of events that can set you up for greatness. Its powerful stuff.
I encourage you to try this little exercise: Everyday for the next week take 5 minutes out of your day to think about all of the love you presently have in your life. Really allow yourself to get swept up in the good, warm feelings. Think about your love for your family, your neighborhood, your food, your brain. I promise that this very simple exercise will change your perception and shift your point of attraction. Amazing things will begin to happen.
